The Hopkinton Police Department is sponsoring a Student Police
Academy open to any Hopkinton High School student. The academy is
designed to give students an overview of what police work is really
like and give them the opportunity to meet and interact with our
police department in a positive manner.
Our instructors will be Hopkinton Police Officers with the assistance
of some outside agencies. They will be presenting a wide range of
topics during the course. Where possible, hands-on techniques are
used to maximize the experience.
The academy is not meant to be a spectator sport. We expect students
to participate so that we may learn as much from you as we hope
you will learn from us. The Student Police Academy meets once a
week for ten weeks at the Hopkinton Fire Station training room.
Classes will run from 2:00 p.m. till 5:00 p.m.
There will also be a Saturday session and a four-hour ride along
assigned to each student, after the third week of class. Some classes
will be held off site and those classes will be announced in advance.
We do require a genuine commitment from all of our students. Students
will be required to keep a notebook in working order and will only
be allowed to miss a maximum of two classes and still graduate.
Students wishing to participate need to fill out an application
and complete a permission slip. Students must have a "C"
or better grade point average in school. Class size will be limited
and seniors will receive preference. Students interested should
see Officer Porter or Officer Powers for an application.
